Obama & FDR --- Who Was in Charge of the War Department during WW2 & the Holocaust?

In the Spring of election year, a young president's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of reelection. As in 2008, Obama is sweet-talking Jews, some of whom have reportedly escaped from the Democratic Party's corral because of his anti-Israel policies since his inauguration in 2009. He sweet-talked Armenian-Americans too in 2008. Once elected of course, he violated his solemn promise to them to recognize the Armenian genocide. Armenians too have escaped from the corral.

In his efforts to hold on to Jewish and other voters, Mr Promise Breaker has compared himself and had himself compared to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, long a hero of the Democratic Party.
But if the comparison is valid, should it be seen as a merit or demerit of Obama?

That brings us to the AIPAC Conference more than a month ago. In his speech there, Prime Minister Netanyahu brought up a historic fact not known to the general public nor even to many people who consider themselves well-informed. This was the rejection by the US War Department in 1944 of a request by a Jewish organization, the World Jewish Congress, to bomb the crematoria at Auschwitz [Oswiecim in Polish] and the railway lines leading there. Such actions would have significantly delayed the ongoing mass murder process. Here is the relevant excerpt from Netanyahu's speech:
Some commentators would have you believe that stopping Iran from getting the bomb is more dangerous than letting Iran have the bomb.
They say that a military confrontation with Iran would undermine the efforts already underway, that it would be ineffective, and that it would provoke even more vindictive action by Iran. I’ve heard these arguments before. In fact, I’ve read them before. In my desk, I have copies of an exchange of letters between the World Jewish Congress and the US War Department. The year was 1944. The World Jewish Congress implored the American government to bomb Auschwitz. The reply came five days later. I want to read it to you. Such an operation could be executed only by diverting considerable air support essential to the success of our forces elsewhere…..and in any case would be of such doubtful efficacy that it would not warrant the use of our resources….And here’s the most remarkable sentence of all. And I quote: Such an effort might provoke even more vindictive action by the Germans. Think about that – “even more vindictive action” — than the Holocaust. [full text of speech here-- texts of letters to & from War Dept here]
Now just who was in charge of the executive branch of the US Government at that time, 1944? Who was ultimately responsible for the conduct of the war and for the setting of war aims? Who was the commander-in-chief of US armed forces in WW2? Yes, it was none other than the same Franklin Delano Roosevelt to whom Obama and his flunkeys compare him in order to place him on the same pedestal of idolization on which FDR has unjustly remained since his death. If the comparison is valid, it is not to Obama's credit.

This is not meant as an endorsement of Republicans. The president at the time of the Holocaust was not a Republican, however, but a Democrat. He was indeed idolized by millions of Americans including most Jews at the time. We can't know what a Republican president would have done if there had been one at the time. We do know that representatives and senators of both the Democratic & Republican parties were sympathetic to the Jews during the Shoah. One of the notable ones being Hugh Scott, a Republican representative from Pennsylvania, later a senator. Scott was instrumental in bringing news of the Holocaust to the American public through a discussion with a volunteer with the Bergson Group to whom Scott provided little known information. Yet the Dulles family, Allen, John Foster and Eleanor, who held influential offices in the US Government and were also Republicans, were not sympathetic. But clearly, Jews cannot trust Democrats, especially when their lips overflow with generalities and platitudes about stopping atrocities and genocide.

Is Islamism Fascism? -- Martin Kramer Presents the Analyses for of Manfred Halpern, Maxime Rodinson, & Said Amir Arjomand

Can we really, honestly describe Islamism as fascistic or a form of fascism?

Martin Kramer quotes Manfred Halpern:
The neo-Islamic totalitarian movements are essentially fascist movements. They concentrate on mobilizing passion and violence to enlarge the power of their charismatic leader and the solidarity of the movement. They view material progress primarily as a means for accumulating strength for political expansion, and entirely deny individual and social freedom. They champion the values and emotions of a heroic past, but repress all free critical analysis of either past roots or present problems.

Halpern continued:

Like fascism, neo-Islamic totalitarianism represents the institutionalization of struggle, tension, and violence. Unable to solve the basic public issues of modern life—intellectual and technological progress, the reconciliation of freedom and security, and peaceful relations among rival sovereignties—the movement is forced by its own logic and dynamics to pursue its vision through nihilistic terror, cunning, and passion. An efficient state administration is seen only as an additional powerful tool for controlling the community. The locus of power and the focus of devotion rest in the movement itself. Like fascist movements elsewhere, the movement is so organized as to make neo-Islamic totalitarianism the whole life of its members.

See Martin Kramer here. Kramer also quotes Maxime Rodinson & Said Amir Arjomand to the same effect.

I would point out that Joseph Schumpeter writes about Arab imperialism as one form of the phenomenon in his book on the subject.

Many researchers have written books and articles on Arab-Nazi collaboration:
Daniel Carpi, Elias Cooper, Martin Cuppers, Zvi El-Peleg, Jonathan C Friedman, Klaus Gensicke, Elliott A Green, Sylvia Haim, Lukasz Hirszowicz, Elie Kedourie, Majid Khadduri (1960), Mathias Kuentzel, Bernard Lewis, Klaus-Michael Mallmann,Rafael Medoff, Robert Melka, Milos Mendel, Joseph Nevo, Francis Nicosia, Monte Penkower, Anwar Sadat (1957), Joseph Schechtman, George H Stein, Simon Wiesenthal, & David Yisraeli.

Seventy Years Since the Arab Mufti Haj Amin el-Husseini, Met Hitler

Expanded12-5-2011 Link added at bottom12-17-2013

The Arab Nazi Mufti of Jerusalem met Hitler the other day 70 years ago, on 28 November 1941. The seventieth anniversary of a friendly, palsy meeting between the greatest mass murderer in history, Adolf Hitler [yes, Stalin gave him stiff competition] and a would-be mass murderer who took part in Hitler's genocidal crimes. We know what went on at the meeting since two written records were made, one by Hitler's secretary, one Schmidt, the other by the Mufti himself.

Here we quote from the German record:
The Fuhrer then made the following statement to the Mufti, enjoining him to lock it in the innermost depths of his heart:
1. He (the Fuhrer) would carry on the battle to the total destruction of the Judeo-Communist empire in Europe.
2. . . . the German armies would in the course of this struggle reach the southern exit from Caucasus.
3. . . . Germany's objective would then be solely the destruction of the Jewish element residing in the Arab sphere under the protection of British power. In that hour the Mufti would be the most authoritative spokesman for the Arab world. It would then be his task to set off the Arab operations which he had secretly prepared. . .
. . .
The Grand Mufti replied that it was his view that everything would come to pass just as the Fuhrer had indicated. He was fully reassured and satisfied by the words which he had heard from the Chief of the German State. . . .
The Grand Mufti thanked him. . . .
[translated text in Walter Laqueur and Barry Rubin, editors, The Israel-Arab Reader: A Documentary History of the Middle East Conflict (seventh revised & updated edition; London & New York: Penguin Books 2008), pp 54-55. The first edition of this book came out in 1969 with Laqueur alone as editor. The record of the Husseini-Hitler discussion has been in the book from 1969 through all the revisions and updatings.
The Mufti's own record of the discussion which he recorded in his diary was published in Joseph B Schechtman,
The Mufti and the Fuehrer (New York: Yoseloff 1965), pp 306-308.]

A short film of the Mufti, Haj Amin el-Husseini [also spelled al-Husayni] arriving at Hitler's offices for the meeting is at this link with narration in French. The film is obviously of great documentary importance. It was no doubt made by the Germans in Berlin and then sent to the Vichy government of France who put in a French narration and most likely supplied it to movie theaters as a newsreel. TV was not in common use. Note that Husseini gives the Nazi salute [upraised arm] when he meets Hitler. Also see this video .
This site has a lot of documentation, photos and texts, about the Mufti.
Photos of the Mufti and his associates, including a German veteran fighting with the Arab forces against Israel in 1948 as a mercenary, are here.

Some background for Husseini should be known. He belonged to the Husseini clan, one of the most influential among the Arab-Muslims in Jerusalem. The Ottoman Empire gave members of the family high posts in government, first in the Jerusalem area, then in the government of the empire as a whole, one serving as a governor in Anatolia and elsewhere. Haj Amin el-Husseini served as an officer in the Ottoman army in World War I, but I don't know whether he was involved in the Armenian genocide perpetrated by that army. However, it was the British who gave him political predominance over the Arabs in the newly created Palestine, the territorial name for the Jewish National Home juridically erected at the San Remo Conference in April 1920 and endorsed by the League of Nations in 1922. In March 1921, the British made him mufti --chief Muslim judge-- of the Jerusalem area, and in December of that same year he was made president of the newly created Supreme Muslim Council which controlled the public money of the Muslim community in the newly created Palestine. This position gave him even more power than the first. Members of the Husseini family have been prominent in the PLO, such as Faisal Husseini, his great-nephew, and Leila Shahid, now the PLO spokeswoman and chief liar representing the PLO/Palestinian Authority in France, a grand-daughter of the Mufti.

The following books and articles are useful for info, documentation and pix on the Mufti and his collaboration with the Nazis:

M S Arnoni, Rights and Wrongs in the Arab-Israeli Conflict (1968). This book has a photo of Husseini with Himmler on which Himmler has written a dedication ["Seiner Eminenz dem Grossmufti -- zur Erinnerung"] plus a pix of Husseini & Nasser.
Zvi El-Peleg, HaMufti haGadol (Tel Aviv: MOD publishing House 1989). This has the cover page of the Nazi weekly, Wiener Illustrierte which shows the Mufti saluting Muslim units of the German army [probably the Bosnian Muslim SS division] plus a few other significant pix. El-Peleg's book came out in English too but I don't know if that edition has the pix.
Martin Gilbert, Exile and Return [Philadelphia: Lippincott 1978]. This book has a pix of the Mufti shaking hands with a Nazi official wearing a swastika armband, when he arrived in Berlin.
Jennie Lebel, Haj Amin uBerlin (Tel Aviv: 1996; in Heb.) This book in Hebrew has relevant pix, inc. documents in German. Much detail here about the Mufti's collaboration with the SS in Bosnia. Jennie Lebel is/was a collateral descendant of Theodore Herzl. She used much documentation in the Serbo-Croatian language which other researchers were not capable of using.
Joseph B Schechtman, The Mufti and the Fuehrer (New York: Yoseloff 1965).

The best on line source for photos on Arab-Nazi collaboration is the site Bibliotheque Proche-Orientale [ http://aval31.free.fr/ ] in both French & English [mostly French]. It also has a link to the short video [from a film] mentioned and linked to above of the Mufti coming to his meeting with Hitler in Berlin, with soundtrack in French. This site has a lot of material on the subject of Arab-Nazi collaboration, mostly French, plus pix.

Another online source of photos of the Mufti is here: http://mtolivesviews.byethost7.com/muftiphotos.html
These photos come from John Roy Carlson, Cairo to Damascus (New York: Knopf 1951)

This is a very large subject that is often suppressed from school history books on World War II and the Holocaust, and from books and articles on Arab nationalism and the Middle East in WW2.

Arab Witness to the 1929 Hebron Massacre Prays for More Massacres of Jews

More news on those peace-and-freedom-loving Palestinian Arabs. MEMRI shows that some Arabs take pride till this day in past acts of mass murder perpetrated against peaceful Jews.
Hamas TV interviewed an Arab woman from Hebron who lived at the time of the Hebron massacre in 1929, which took place 19 years before the rise of the State of Israel, 19 years before there were any Arab refugees from Israel to lament and complain about. It was thoughtful of Mrs Jaber to remind us of that massacre before the pretexts supplied today for massacres existed. In 1929, there were no Arab refugees and no State of Israel. Yet there was a massacre. In any case, Mrs Jaber liked that early, pre-state episode of mass murder so much that she would like to see it repeated, but on a much larger scale.
MEMRI also has a video of this interview for those who don't want to believe that that's how many Arabs think:

92-Year-Old Palestinian Woman in a Right-of-Return Demonstration On Hamas TV: Palestinians Should Massacre the Jews Like We Massacred Them in Hebron
Following are excerpts from an interview with Sara Jaber, a 92-year-old Palestinian who participated in a Right of Return demonstration on the Jordanian-Israeli border. The interview was aired on Hamas' Al-Aqsa TV on May 13, 2011.

Interviewer: "Please tell us who you are."

Sara Jaber: "I am from Hebron. The Jaber family."

Interviewer: "What is your name?"

Sara Jaber: "Sara Muhammad 'Awwadh Jaber."

Interviewer: "How old are you?"

Sara Jaber: "I am 92."

Interviewer: "So you remember May 15, 1948, the day of the Nakba."

Sara Jaber: "Why wouldn't I remember? May Allah support us. I hope we forget those days. Allah willing, you will bury [Israel], and massacre the Jews with your own hands. Allah willing, you will massacre them like we massacred them in Hebron."

Interviewer: "What does this day mean to you? You have lived 63 years since the Nakba. You have experienced the entire Nakba..."

Sara Jaber: "92 years. That's 92. I lived through the British era, and I lived through the massacre of the Jews in Hebron. We, the people of Hebron, massacred the Jews. My father massacred them, and brought back some stuff..."

Interviewer: "Thank you very much. [interview here]

This interview is helpful in that an Arab woman admits that the Hebron massacre took place. Jews don't have to spend energy proving that it happened to the ever so righteous "leftists" and other doubters of whatever a Jew says, although are eager to believe any lie out of an Arab's mouth. That ilk finds the truth of the Hebron massacre to be an inconvenient truth. But Mrs Jaber admits the massacre frankly, brutally frankly. Sometimes the Arabs can be brutally frank, especially if they think that they are winning. They lie when they think that they are in a weaker positions.

Video of the interview here.
This video was shown on the Glenn Beck show on Foxnews TV on 5-19-2011.

More on the US pro-Islam, pro-Arab Policy

US policy in the Middle East in the 20th century followed in the footsteps of British Middle Eastern policy, and can be seen as a continuation of it. It was no accident that the British upper crust called the American elite "our American cousins." Indeed, this was often true in a literal sense as many titled Britishers married rich American men and women. Therefore, cousins were found on both sides of the Atlantic.

British policy announced a pro-Islamic turn in 1920 when the Supreme Command of the WW One allies, the Entente powers, ordered the Greek army to stop advancing in Anatolia, and thereby to stop defeating the Turkish army. There is reason to believe that Britain was the leading power pushing for the order to the Greeks to stop. In that same year, British officers in Jerusalem --in what was then officially called Occupied Enemy Territory Administration-South-- encouraged Haj Amin el-Husseini to instigate anti-Jewish riots in order to discourage Great Power approval of the Jewish National Home principle at the San Remo Conference. This British encouragement for Arab violence against Jews in Israel was not at that time the official policy out of London but seems to have been a local initiative of British officers in the country, some or all of whom had been influenced by the notorious Tsarist forgery/plagiarism, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. Later, the London policy towards the Jewish National Home followed the local initiative and became hostile to the Jews, encouraging Arab hostility to Jews in the country. In other words, the Arabs became a tool of London for its own anti-Jewish hostility.

Back in Anatolia, in 1922, naval ships of the UK, US and other Western Great Powers watched as Ataturk's new Turkish army drove the Greeks of Anatolia and Smyrna into the sea at the Smyrna port, although Greek boats of all sorts were allowed to pick up refugees. Meanwhile, the powers did not oppose renewed massacres of Armenians in the city [see George Horton, Marjorie Housepian]. The new revolutionary Soviet Union also sided with the Turks in those years, thereby taking the same stance as the Western capitalist powers.

In other parts of the British Empire, the British encouraged Muslims against non-Muslims, and Arabs against non-Arab Muslims. In India, the UK encouraged Muslim demands for a separate state ["pakistan", which had never existed before] against the aspiration of the Indian National Congress for a unified India. In the former Ottoman Empire, the UK saw to it that the vilayet [province] of Mosul, inhabited not by Arabs but by Kurdish Muslims , Assyrian Christians, Jews and smaller ethno-religious groups, be transferred to the new, British-sponsored Kingdom of Iraq and taken away from the new Turkish Republic. Some say that this was because oil had been discovered in and around the city of Mosul, which would be more under British influence as a part of Iraq --then under a British mandate-- than as a part of Turkey. In Iraq, the British winked at the massacre of thousands of Assyrians in 1933 at the hands of the Iraqi Arab army.

During WW2, the UK violated its mandate to foster development of the Jewish National Home by severely limiting the number of Jews to be allowed to immigrate into the Jewish National Home when the Jews most needed a home. This was the notorious 1939 White Paper policy. More generally, UK foreign minister Anthony Eden came out in support of pan-Arab nationalism by calling for formation of what became the Arab League. Eden's speech came on 29 May 1941, just three days before the notorious pro-Nazi pogrom against Jews in Baghdad [1 & 2 June 1941]. Hence, it would have been only natural for Eden to keep British troops outside Baghdad at that time from intervening to stop the massacre of the Jews. Be that as it may, British troops there at that time did not intervene.

When the Jewish underground in Israel was fighting for independence and to have the UK let Jewish Holocaust survivors into the country, the UK continued to refuse to honor its commitments under the mandate. Although Pres. Truman had called for 100,000 Jewish Holocaust survivors to be allowed into Israel by the UK in 1946, by 1947 the US State Dept and other USGovt agencies were encouraging the Arab war effort against the as yet unborn Israel. Here the US slipped into the role of continuing the British anti-Jewish, pro-Arab, pro-Muslim policy.
The UK in Israel supported Arab forces against the Jews, fighting the Jews directly in Yafo [Jaffa] and in Jerusalem.

In 1952, British and US operatives encouraged and helped Nasser and his pro-Hitlerite "Free Officers" to overthrow the parliamentary monarchy of King Farouq. Mubarak belonged to the regime put in place by Nasser and the "Free Officers" in 1952. In that year, American mainstream publications celebrated the fall of King Farouq by explaining that the rebels were against Farouq's "corruption." In Iraq, in the 1960s and 1970s, the USA supported the Arab national socialist Ba`ath Party, the crowning glory of which was Saddam Hussein. After Israeli aircraft had destroyed the Iraqi Osirak atomic development facility [1981], the US administration wanted to denounce Israel for this defensive action, although it did not because public opinion was with Israel. The US also formally "recognized" the PLO in November 1988, although high level contacts with the PLO had gone on for decades.

In early 1979, the Carter Administration --its foreign policy directed by the Sorcerer's Apprentice, Zbigniew Brzezinski-- helped the Islamist fanatic Ayatollah Khomeini, take over Iran. Was Zbig unaware of Khomeini's fanaticism and bigotry? It was no secret to specialists on Iran at that time where Khomeini stood. Likewise, James Clapper, Obama's director of national intelligence [Intelligence?], knows where the Muslim Brotherhood stands and pretended it was something else. Interestingly, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter's national insecurity advisor has also been an advisor to Obama. Zbig's grand theory was and --apparently-- still is to build up Islamic fanaticism. No doubt in pursuit of this purpose, Obama sent Zbig to Damascus in February 2008, months before his election. Zbig was probably supposed to tell Junior Assad that if Obama were elected, then the Assads would have a friend in the White House. The fact that Damascus and Assad's very own mouth are world centers of Judeophobic agitprop and hate indoctrination, did not deter either Zbig or Obama.

These facts among others are the background to Obama administration efforts to put the Muslim Brotherhood in power in Egypt. I think that the disciples of Zbig succeeded all too well in Iran. We don't need another Khomeini, this time in Egypt. But stopping Obama's goal from being realized needs constant criticism of Obama for the dangerous course that he is taking.

New Film Footage on the Nazi Arab Mufti Husseini Meeting Hitler

UPDATING 1-10-2011

Anti-Zionism is the anti-imperialism of fools

A video film now being circulated by Bosnian Mulims shows the Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el-Husseini [al-Husayni] shaking hands with Hitler. This a hagiographical film made to idolize and glorify Husseini. It gives a lot of attention to the Bosnian Muslim SS division, the Handschar [Khanjar], which Husseini helped the Germans to organize. Let's not forget that he also helped organize a Kossovo Muslim Albanian SS division called the Skanderbeg, named ironically after an Albanian leader --George Castriota, Skanderbeg-- who organized resistance by the Balkan peoples to the Ottoman Muslim conquest of that region of Europe.

For those who still don't want to acknowledge the collaboration with Nazi Germany of the palestinian Arab leadership, here is more graphic proof. The Handschar SS division was notorious for its atrocities against Serbs, Jews, Gypsies and other non-Muslims.

But those who don't want to believe will probably continuing denying the real history.
- - - - - - - - - -
UPDATING 1-6-2011 Unfortunately, after getting this blog post ready, we discovered that the Bosnian Muslims who had put up the photo of their mentor, Haj Amin el-Husseini, and Hitler, had taken it down from youtube. Apparently they were informed that it was too embarassing for their own image and for their jihadi friends among the Arabs, like Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood, etc., as well as for Fatah which pretends not to be sectarian or jihadist, although their manifestoes and everyday propaganda as well as their indoctrination of their own population reek of age-old Muslim, anti-Jewish bigotry, mixed with some European elements of Judeophobia. The youtube video was at this link:

More new info has come out lately about US and other Allied govt relations with Haj Muhammad Amin el-Husseini [al-Husayni].
1-- a report prepared for the US Congress by American historians, Andrew Breitman and Norman J Goda, "Hitler's Shadow: Nazi War Criminals, US Intelligence, and the Cold War" [description of report here]. The report was apparently released in December 2010;
2-- a new book, Farhud, by Edwin Black [here]. Black's book deals also with the massacre of Jews in Baghdad in the Spring of 1941, perpetrated in sympathy with the Nazis and after incitement against the Iraqi Jews by Husseini. On the Farhud also see: here & here & here & here & here .
3-- the site Bibliotheque Proche-Orientale has many photos, films, pix of documents about the Mufti Husseini, often simply called The Mufti. The site is in French with much English-language material too [here/ici]. The photos and pix of documents do not require knowledge of French. One photo shows the meeting between Husseini and Hitler. One short film clip shows the Mufti arriving for the meeting.
UPDATING 1-10-2011 Former residence of the British-appointed Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el-Husseini [al-Husayni], converted into a hotel, was demolished today in Jerusalem. The legal demolition was greeted by hypocritical snorts from Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, & the usual suspects at the European Union. The demolition was claimed to be "undermining peace" and such like drivel [here & here&here& here]. The last two articles linked to --from the Jerusalem Post & the Turkish Hurriyet-- remind us that the property belonged to Haj Amin el-Husseini. The Hurriyet article errs in labeling the place where weekly protests take place against Jewish residence, is "Sheikh Jarrah." The Sheikh Jarrah Quarter is indeed where the Mufti's former residence was located. However, the protests are over the nearby Jewish quarter of Shim`on haTsadiq.

Archbishop Tutu Pretends Arabs Did Not Traditionally Oppress Jews, Had No Hand in Holocaust; Akiva Eldar of HaArets [haaretz] Facilitates Tutu's Lies

The repugnant Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu popped into town with his coconspirators, jimmuh carter and Mary Robinson, as part of a know-nothing gang of so-called Elders. Interviewed by Akiva Eldar of HaArets, Tutu came up with an old staple of pro-Arab propaganda, the Arabs [now called "palestinians"] are paying for Nazi Germany's crimes against Jews. This lie was a staple of anti-Israel propaganda among the British and American Establishments going back to the years after the Holocaust. However, it did become known in those days that Haj Amin el-Husseini [al-Husayni], the chief leader of the palestinian Arabs and British-appointed mufti of Jerusalem, played a direct role in the Holocaust. This was known to the editors of the weekly Nation magazine, among others, although today's editors at the Nation seem not to know it or to not understand its moral implications. Likewise, Tutu seems unaware of the age-old oppression of Jews in lands ruled by Arabs which goes on even now in Yemen, for instance. So Tutu is either a liar or an ignoramus, or maybe something of both.

The photo below shows the British-appointed Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin el-Husseini [Husayni] together with Heinrich Himmler, commander of the Nazi SS.

The photo is inscribed by Himmler:
"To his eminence the Grand Mufti, 4 VII 1943, in remembrance H Himmler"
Seiner Eminenz dem Grossmufti 4 VII 1943 zur erinnerung H Himmler

What is equally dangerous is the HaArets journalist, Akiva Eldar, who feeds Tutu soft questions, and does not challenge his obviously false answers. Eldar plays a funny role, by the way. I used to read his articles in HaArets fairly often. He always seemed to know what the Washington administration was thinking, whether the president was Reagan or Bush I or Clinton or Bush II. So it seems that he was serving as a channel for US govt viewpoints in the Israeli press, and as an advocate for US viewpoints, claims, policies, etc. He deserved to be paid for those services, and if the US embassy in Tel Aviv did not reward for his services, then he was grossly underpaid. Of course, I have no proof that he was ever rewarded by the USG for services rendered. But his regular journalistic conduct is suggestive.

Now, there was a great deal of Arab-Nazi collaboration, and indeed of mutual influence. Husseini, the mufti of Jerusalem, spent most of the war years in Nazi-fascist territory in Europe and collaborated directly in the Holocaust. Readers may note on our blog roll, Bibliotheque Proche Orientale. This site holds a great many documents and photographs in both English and French mainly on Arab-Nazi collaboration. A new book by Matthias Kunzel has a good deal of information on the Nazi-Arab relationship and influences. There are several other books too that I will look up and add to this post. Meanwhile, here are some of Tutu's foolish remarks. Perhaps he is used as a British spokesman to say things that a white Britisher could not get away with saying.
TheNobel Prize laureate spoke to Haaretz in Jerusalem as the organization The Elders concluded its tour of Israel and the West Bank. He said the West was consumed with guilt and regret toward Israel because of the the Holocaust, "as it should be." "But who pays the penance? The penance is being paid by the Arabs, by the Palestinians." [HaArets, 8-29-2009]
Note that Tutu tries to be disarming and appear as not a Judeophobe. He said the West was consumed with guilt and regret toward Israel because of theHolocaust as it should be. [Eldar's paraphrase of Tutu]. So the West should feel guilty about the Holocaust. I believe that many Western govts do not feel guilty about it, although they should. Perhaps part of the reason for the lack of a sense of guilt is the kind of propaganda that Tutu speaks which is intended to subtly undermine any sense that the Jews are moral, that Jews have rights, that Jews can be decent human beings if they adopt the UK anti-Israel policy. It is also meant to totally distort real history. Real history also includes more than a thousand years of Arab-Muslim oppression, exploitation, humiliation, persecution of Jews.

However, there is a great deal that has been published on Arab-Nazi collaboration as well as on traditional Arab-Muslim oppression of Jews. If Tutu does not know about this then he is an ignoramus whose opinion on Arab-Israeli matters is worthless. If Tutu knows but pretends not to know and utters his falsehoods anyway, then he is a liar. Either way, he does not deserve to be taken seriously. This also should apply to jimmy carter and mary robinson. By the way, how do they explain the photo of the Mufti with Himmler above, personally inscribed to Husseini by Himmler?? They are all loathesome.

Here are some sources of info. The list will be expanded.

Jewish Leaders - Conferfence of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations-- Objects to Obama Anti-Israel Policy

EXPANDED 7-26-2009

In the Obamanoid Administration's frenetic drive to harm and humiliate Jews, they unwisely picked on a sore point for most Jews. They demanded that Israel's government prevent a Jew from building a small housing development [ca. 20 units] on a plot of land that he had legally bought in Jerusalem, a plot that had formerly belonged to the notorious Arab Nazi collaborator and Holocaust collaborator, Haj Amin el-Husseini, British-appointed Mufti of Jerusalem. The State Dept objected because the plot was under Jordanian control --in the Jordanian-occupied zone of Jerusalem-- between 1948 and 1967, what Arab propagandists and Western journalists and diplomats call "East Jerusalem" or "Arab East Jerusalem." In fact, before Israel's War of Independence was initiated by Arab forces at the end of November 1947, thousands of Jews lived in what later became "East Jerusalem." Indeed, Jews have been the majority in Jerusalem since at least 1853, according to the French diplomat and historian Cesar Famin and the British writer Bartlett.

The Jews living in what became "East Jerusalem" began to flee the attacks of Arab irregulars in December 1947. First, from the Shimon haTsadiq quarter, quite close ironically --about 100 meters-- to the plot in question where the State Dept --apparently Obama too-- does not want Jews to build homes or to live. Later Jews fled the nearby Nahalat Shimon and Siebenbergen Houses quarters. Finally, the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Arab-occupied "East Jerusalem" was completed in May 1948 when the Jews were driven out of the Jewish quarter of the Old City, many of the men being held prisoners by the Arab Legion of Transjordan [now Jordan] for months.

When Jews were the majority in the mid-19th century, this was a majority in the post-1948 "East Jerusalem". That was in the Old City. All of the city was the Old City at that time. The Old City became part of the latter day "East Jerusalem." The Old City was off bounds to Jews from 1948 to 1967. So in the mid-19th century, Jews were the majority in what was later to be called by Arab propagandists and their journalistic pimps: "traditionally Arab East Jerusalem."

The major leadership group of the organized American Jewish community, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations [which groups some 50 Jewish groups together] has properly issued a statement on the State Dept's insolent, racist anti-Jewish behavior. To be sure, they did not use the terms that I use, but their statement is a useful clarification of some of the issues involved. Here is the statement [through Newsmax]:
The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations has long advocated and supported the unity of Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Israel. As such, we believe that legal construction by residents of the city should be allowed as long as it is in keeping with the standards and requirements of the municipality and the national government. We find disturbing the objections raised to the proposed construction of residential units on property that was legally purchased and approved by the appropriate authorities. The area in question houses major Israeli governmental agencies, including the national police headquarters. The United States has in the past and recently raised objections to the removal of illegal structures built by Arabs in eastern Jerusalem even though they were built in violation of zoning and other requirements often on usurped land. In addition to the Jewish housing, the project called for apartment units for Arabs as well.

It is particularly significant that the structure in question formerly was the house of the infamous Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini who spent the war years in Berlin as a close ally of Hitler, aiding and abetting the Nazi extermination of Jews. He was also linked to the 1929 massacre in Hebron and other acts of incitement that resulted in deaths and destruction in what was then Palestine. There has been an expressed desire by some Palestinians to preserve the building as a tribute to Husseini.

As a united city, Jerusalem’s Jewish and Arab residents should be permitted to reside wherever legal and security requirements allow. Hundreds of Arab families have moved into Jewish neighborhoods of Jerusalem and the same right should be accorded to Jewish residents in live where they choose in Jerusalem. To do otherwise would undermine and prejudge the status of the city.

No government of Israel has or can pursue a discriminatory policy that would prevent the legitimate presence of Jews in any area of its capital.

[in an article by Ronald Kessler, chief Washington correspondent of Newsmax.com]

Notes to the statement:
1) the plot of land is not only close to the national police headquarters and several government ministries but to the Hebrew University's sports complex, to the Hadassah Hospital, Mount Scopus branch, and to the Hyatt Hotel.
2) at least 68 Jews were massacred in Hebron in 1929, on account of mass murder incitement by agents of the mufti Husseini. Hebron is considered one of the four Jewish holy cities, along with Jerusalem, Safed, and Tiberias.
3) a massacre of Jews took place in Baghdad in the Spring of 1941, during the Shavu`ot holiday. Iraqi investigators later concluded that this massacre --called the Farhud-- had been instigated by the Judeophobic agitprop of Husseini and his associates over a period of about two years, while Husseini was living there from 1939 to 1941. It was at the time of the massacre that Husseini fled, first to Iran then to Turkey then to Italy where he met Mussolini, and finally to Berlin where he met Hitler. Husseini asked Hitler "to solve the problem of the Jews in the Arab countries as the problem was being solved in Germany." He was pleased when Hitler told him that this was his purpose too.
4) The plot in question, once owned by Haj Amin el-Husseini [Husayni], formerly called The Shepherd's Hotel, is about 75 meters south of a cluster of Israeli govt buildings, including ministries. It is about 100 meters east of the Shim`on haTsadiq Quarter, a residential quarter of poor Jews who were mostly driven out of their homes in late December 1947 [12-29-1947]. One family stayed on, fleeing only in the first ten days of January 1948. The Jews in this neighborhood were the first group in the country who were driven out of their homes and could not come back after the war, whereas Jews were driven out of south Tel Aviv in the same period but could return after the Arab attackers in neighboring Jaffa were defeated in about April-May 1948.

Many readers may be unaware of the historical facts cited by the Conference of Presidents and by me in my post. That is, they are victims of the everyday, very conventional falsification of history regarding the Jews, Israel, and the Arabs that has been going on for many years and has long infected the State Dept, whether as falsifiers or believers. The position of the State Dept, indeed of Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton, is a rejection of Jewish human and civil rights. It is unacceptable for a supposedly democratic government to take such positions.

By the way, I can attest, as a resident of Jerusalem, that my Arab fellow residents of the city delight in the several shopping centers in the city. If you visit Jerusalem, you can see Arabs riding buses with Jews, eating at Jewish restaurants in the shopping malls, shopping, trying on clothes, spending money [yes, they have money for all the poor mouthing done on their behalf by Arab propagandists, their pimp Western journalists, fake Western "human rights" and "humanitarian" NGOs (supposed "non-governmental organizations" that often, indeed usually, get funding from --- governments)], being treated in hospitals with the Jews, etc.

Palestinian Arabs as Imperialist Paladins

REVISED/EXPANDED 6-23-2009

Anti-Zionism is the anti-imperialism of fools.

One of the big falsifications is the regular depiction of Arabs, especially Palestinian Arabs, as innocent of doing anything bad in history. This falsehood goes back perhaps to Lowell Thomas' post-WW I depiction of TE Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia, as the savior of oppressed, colonized Arabs from Ottoman Turkish tyranny. What is not said, almost never said, is that many Arabs from the leading Arab families held high posts in the imperial service. The Ottoman Empire was a Sunni Muslim state and most Arabs, as Sunni Muslims, were loyal to it. This has been confirmed by writers as diverse as the historian Elie Kedourie and the PLO propaganda hack Rashid Khalidi [when he thought that the hoi polloi were not paying attention]. Khalidi, we recall, is an old pal of Prez Obama and supposedly his chief instructor in matters Middle Eastern. That is, Khalidi conveyed to obama the straight Pan-Arab nationalist, pan-Islamist orthodoxy that has long been looked upon fondly in the State Dept and the CIA.

The Arab upper crust was so well integrated into the Ottoman governing class that the Arab historian Zeine N Zeine and the Turkish sociologist Zia Gok Alp both called the Ottoman Empire a Turkish-Arab state. As Ottoman officials, these Arabs took part in Ottoman tyranny and the exploitation and oppression of the subject peoples of the Empire, that is, of non-Muslims such as Bulgars, Armenians, Greeks, etc., as well as of the working poor among the Muslims.

The offspring of leading Arab families in what was designated "palestine" after World War One by the international community, mainly Western powers to be sure, received high posts in the Empire too [of course, there was no "palestine" under the Ottoman or Mamluk empires]. One of these families was the Khalidis of Jerusalem, the family of Obama's pal Rashid. Other leading Arab families of the future "palestine," like the Jerusalem Husseinis and the Abdul-Hadis of Nablus [Sh'khem] also received high imperial posts.

Let's start with the Khalidis. First, they are a "Prominent family of Jerusalem notables. It claims descent from Khalid bin al-Walid, the great 7th century Muslim general" [Shimoni & Levine, see below]. This founding Khalid was a military conqueror of Jerusalem, the Land of Israel and Syria.
-- Ruhi al-Khalidi was the Ottoman consul in Bordeaux, elected in 1908 and 1912 as one of three Jerusalem members of the Ottoman parliament.
-- Yusuf Dia` al-Khalidi, first speaker of the Ottoman parliament and later the Ottoman consul in Vienna, an especially sensitive position since the Austro-Hungarian [Habsburg] Empire coveted Ottoman territories and had indeed defeated the Ottoman armies on several occasions and taken vast lands away from it in the past. Hungary, Croatia, and Bosnia, were lands that the Habsburgs had taken away from the Ottoman state. So an Ottoman representative in Vienna had to be especially aware of events, trends, moods, military moves and public declarations in the Habsburg Empire.
-- Mustafa al-Khalidi was a chief of police in Beirut in the Ottoman period. To complete the account, we need to point out that the British appointed him as mayor of Jerusalem 1937-1944. At that time Jerusalem had a Jewish majority as it had had since 1853. The British disregarded the Jewish majority in the city out of their own Judeophobia. Does Sandra Mackey know about that disregarded Jewish majority??

Here are some of the Husseinis [al- Husayni]. The family claims descent from Muhammad. They accumulated large tracts of land in the villages northwest of Ramallah:
Musa Kazem el-Husseini, educated at the Ottoman School of Administration in Istanbul. He served as qaimakam [sub-district governor] in several places and as mutessarif [district governor] in Transjordan, the Arabian Peninsula, and Anatolia. Now as governor of a district in Anatolia he quite possibly governed a district inhabited by many Armenians. How did he treat the members of this oppressed people while governing in Anatolia?
Be that as it may, the British appointed him mayor of Jerusalem [a city with a Jewish majority since 1853] from 1918 to 1920. His son Abdul-Qader Husseini served under the leadership of their kinsman, Haj Amin el-Husseini, in the so-called Arab Revolt ["the revolt by leave"] of 1936-39 and collaborated with the Nazis as Haj Amin did. Abdul-Qader also led terrorist gangs against Jews and fellow Arabs. He went into exile in Baghdad with Haj Amin and there in 1940 a son was born to him named Faisal, while Haj Amin --who was also Abdul-Qader's uncle-- incited the Iraqis in favor of the Nazis and against Jews. Many Jews, estimated in number from 179 to 600, were murdered in the notorious Farhud pogrom in Baghdad in the spring of 1941, at the Shavu`ot holiday, attributed to Haj Amin's agitation, among other causes. Years later, Faisal was a part of the PLO terrorist Arab nationalist irredentist movement, inciting violence among fellow Arabs living in Jerusalem. He called himself "a peace activist." They all do, don't they? He once admitted that the Palestinian Authority was like a Trojan Horse against Israel.
Salim el-Husseini was appointed mayor of the newly formed Jerusalem municipality [baladiyyah] in the 1870s and several occasions afterwards, while the city already had a Jewish majority. Two of his sons, including Musa Kazem mentioned above, were appointed mayors of Jerusalem, Musa Kazem by the British and Hussein Salim by the Ottoman state [1909-1918].
Sa`id el-Husseini was a delegate to the Ottoman parliament after the 1908 and 1914 elections [candidates needed a rather high minimal income to be elected].

Lastly come the Abdul-Hadis of Nablus [originally NeaPolis, also Sh'khem]. They come last because of Nablus' lesser importance compared to Jerusalem.

Ruhi Abdul-Hadi worked in the Ottoman Empire's diplomatic service. He later held senior positions in the administration of the British mandatory government in the country. He subsequently became a minister in the Jordanian govt.
[see here for info about a latter-day Abdul-Hadi]

All this information of course refutes the usual simplistic fake history of the Arabs in the Land of Israel as propagated by such as Sandra Mackey and many others. The poor of the Arabs were poor and oppressed, by their own ethnic and religious brothers as much as by any one else. The Arab upper crust were part of the Ottoman imperial class and later enjoyed privileged positions under the British mandatory govt while Jews were discriminated against. The fact that the Muslim and Arab poor and workers and peasants were exploited by their own upper class makes the Ottoman Empire no less imperialist, indeed no different in principle from the Russian Empire where the Russian workers, peasants, and poor were oppressed by their own upper crust.
